BMW is a Tier One Partner and exclusive automotive sponsor
of the 2012 Games. As such, the company will provide various forms of transportation for athletes, technical officials, media, LOCOG operational teams, national Olympic Committees, International Sports Federations, the IOC and marketing partners.
We now have a better idea of the forms and amounts of transportation that BMW will be supplying. The company will supply almost 4,000 vehicles and 400 bicycles (the first of which was delivered today), from diesels to electric cars, hybrids to motorcycles, as well as innovative new products like the Pedelec (an electric assisted bicycle).
Of those, the majority of the fleet will be made up of highly efficient diesel-powered cars. The BMW 320d EfficientDynamics sedan (F30 3-series version!
) will make up at least a third of the fleet and an all-new model, the recently announced BMW 520d EfficientDynamics
sedan will also feature significantly in the 2012 London Olympics fleet.
Electric BMWs will also play an important role and the fleet will include 200 MINI Es and BMW 1 Series Active Es.
