I know this thread dates back a few years but i thought others might find this fix useful. The symptoms described above can be caused by glitches in the navigation software. To reset the vehicle position simply reboot the Navigation system (not the idrive) by disconnecting the vehicle battery negative (black) terminal for a few seconds and reconnecting. Leave the car switched on for a couple of minutes with a clear view of the sky whilst the system locks on to the satelites. The spanner in the tool kit is the right size for the battery terminal and you might need to set the time in the display settings.
