My guess is that a single gear (especially a lower one) doesn't put a high load on the engine for very long. getting 2 upper gears worth probably presents more opportunity for a timing correction or some other issue. I'm sure some useful information can be gathered from the gear change itself as well
Ill Have to give it a try and see if I can find somewhere safe to actually use 4fourth gear at those speeds safely. I have I95 right around the corner but it always has a lot of traffic. But Ill give it a try. Thank you for all your help.
