suspension replacement

my car has 65k miles on it now. certain potholes create a loud BOOM sound from the rear suspension. one of my kids even got hurt a little from the jarring; i was pulling out of a parking lot a few weeks ago and there was a pothole, which wasn't even that big, and when my right rear wheel hit it all hell broke loose. i was just pulling out so i wasn't even going that fast yet.

so i assume i need to address the car's suspension, especially the rear. do i need to just get new shocks, or will i need more than that? i hear that sachs is just as good as bmw oem but is cheaper. is this true?

by the way, i do NOT have the sport suspension.
