Winter rim/tire setup

Greetings

I have read people buy incorrect rim/tire for there winter tire setup and am worried about falling into the same issue. I just got the car (2007 bmw 328i coupe (i am assuming with sport package), I am looking for winter tire/rim combo for this car (Car is canadian from quebec) dont know if that makes a difference. The current tire on the car (front 225/40r18, rear 255/35/r18).

Do the winter tires need to be rft? Do i need a TPMS for the winter setup? I read blizzacks rfts are a a good setup. Would 17" rims fit on this car?

Sorry, just a noob looking for proper winter/tires setup. I do a lot of driving so the best winter tires would be preferred.

Thank you
