I made a thread on visiting the BMW Welt and OktoberFest a few years back. Its worth a look... (Fest pics are towards the end of the photo thread)...

It is really hard to convey how crowed it is at OktoberFest. get there early if you want a table and some food.

Another nice Fest is the one in Stuttgart called the: Bad Cannstadter Fest. It always starts the week after the Munich fest and runs until the following week after the O-Fest in Munich ends. The Cannstadter Fest is nice bc many Americans and Japanese do not know about it... so its less packed.
