Does your car throw a check engine light (CEL) code? You vanos solenoids could be dirty and not actuating properly to advance or retard your timing. Usually when this happens you would throw a CEL code though. I had something similar and all I had to do was pull my vanos solenoids (super easy, search for DIY's) clean and swap them.
