Visiting Seattle

Hi guys,
I'm hoping some of you guys can give me some advice for my trip to Seattle. I should be in town next weekend. This will be my first time in Seattle, and its a very short trip (arriving Saturday and leaving Monday), and I'm trying to take in as much as possible. I haven't booked a hotel yet. Can anyone tell me where the best part of town would be to stay in, to see all the touristy stuff? I won't have a car, so I'm going to pretty much rely on public transportation. How is the public transportation? Is it safe? or should I rent a car? Any suggestions on place I must see/do/eat? Sorry for all the noob questions, I'm just trying to make the most out of this trip.
Should I be prepared for mostly rain on my trip?

Thanks for your advice and suggestions! And I hope you guys can help out a fellow E90post member
