Looks are one thing to consider, but....

Larger wheel/tire combinations tend to be heavier, which can hurt straight line performance a little. See this Car and Driver article for details:

On the other hand, larger wheels/tire combinations tend to improve skidpad results. On the other hand, they are more expensive.
