I've never regretted switching to non-runflat. With non-runflats you will save money in comparison to runflats and reduce weight of your tires.

There are plenty of recommendations on this site for tires. You can also go to the forums's sponsor, tirerack.com to see reviews of tires, including how people score their tires by attribute. Here's an example for a highly rated, very popular summer tire:

Per previous post, if you go non-runflats, decide what you need for an emergency. I carry a tire repair kit (air inflator, tire sealant, tire plugs, small tools for plugs) and I learned how to plug a tire (not difficult).
