Yes, that is "the" risk on Z06, but one option was to change the engine heads for aftermarket on a used 40-45k Z06. Many Zs are being tracked, and even high mileage Zs did not have the valve and valves guides issues. The other is the C6 GS as you mention with Z51 package or Z16 package.

umm I just left the vette world after 2 years and just from the people who posted on the vette forums I saw easily 50 that said they dropped valves. This doesnt account for the people who arent on the forums. My friend works at the chevy dealership here where I live and has seen many come through with 500 miles up to higher mileage.
First thing I would do is swap the heads out for sure.
