The mechanic confirmed that the right c.a bushing was completely disintegrated, hence the clunk. I think it was a combination of the bushings and bad tires. Had both of them replaced and the steering feel is so much more confident. Oh yeah!! have someone else drive your car down the street and back and stomp on the brakes while you watch the front wheels. You'll notice that the front wheels do a wobbly dance. that's usually a good indicator.
