The issue with a tune or other mods is not that they discover it and immediately say aha your warranty is voided, and tear it up in front of you in a fit of pique. The issue is if one is flagged or traces of it are recorded in a way that it can be found later forensically, your warranty may get voided if you need it for something big. Lore has it that this can be done at the BMWNA level by reading older data or records and pulling shadow codes.

So say you go in regularly for service and recalls etc. No one says anything to you. They even do minor warranty work. They are "tune friendly". Then on the last day your warranty is valid your engine tranny diff all blow up and your car catches on fire. You take it in, the friendly dealer says wow this sucks, glad you have a warranty. BMW looking at $20k+ costs goes over your records with a fine tooth comb. Finds shadow codes due to tune. Warranty denied.

So the point is dealer is not BMWNA, and voiding of warranties can happen at the corporate level if/when you need it for something big. For that reason smart thing to do is remove all evidence of mods to expensive stuff for any trip to the dealer. Because you never know. I realize this is a hassle and some choose to ignore it but be aware.
