I just bought a 2011 335i a week ago with this noise. Ordered PCV valve from Amazon, replaced it, the old one, it did have a hole. The sound was still there, but was not as loud.
A few days prior, I checked the valve cover bolts I could see, and one on the front was very loose. Before I replaced the valve cover I thought I would check all of the valve cover bolts, sure enough two more were loose. I tightened them, and the noise is gone and has stayed gone.
The torque on the bolts is minimal, check the specs before you tighten them, or you might be replacing one. Just thought this might help someone in the future
