DIY Alloy Wheel Repair

I live on a terrace street and have to parallel park every day. Therefore I have managed to scuff 3 of my 4 wheels in less than 4 months of owning the car.

A friend of mine sent me this link for DIY:
http://www.autopia-carcare.com/realwhda.html

It seems a bit time consuming and I don't like the look of having to cover the whole car (I would probably take the wheel off instead).

Has anyone tried anything similar? Was it worth it or did you wish you had just paid the 60 a wheel to get Chipsaway (or similar) to do it?
