I ran with the K&N filter fitted for 25000 miles without any MAF problems and I know of others also without any problems. Advice I was given from contacts in the motor sport business suggested that oil wetted filters can be a problem if after cleaning the filter at a later stage the owner over oils the element. Providing you don't over oil it you shouldn't have any problems.

Regarding the noise - I've fitted K&N filters to all my BMWs (320 diesels, 320i and 330i) and have not detected any increase in noise. The replacement filters remain enclosed in the OEM filter /airbox housing! If you fit an induction kit then yes, the noise is increased significantly (not a good idea in my opinion). It spoils the character of the car!
