This last explanation furthermore would seem only possible if it was 'drive by wire', which I don't believe is the case with the e92.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? Am I correct about the 'drive by wire" notion? Does anyone have a favorite dealership in Connecticut?
After I got my car lowered, I had the same problem of having to hold the steering off center in order for the car to go straight. A few miles down the road I had the stability control and brake warning lights go off. I took it to the dealer to get it checked out and they said it was some issue with the steering sensor and that I needed an alignment (because of the spring install).

Once they did the alignment, no more warning lights and the steering wheel is back to the normal position.
