Two possible explanations:
1) You've purchased the wrong cradle. The smartphone cradle is PN # 84 21 2 158 683. If you purchased PN # 84 21 2 158 682, it is for the car WITHOUT smartphone, and will not allow you to play music.
2) You have some other device plugged into your USB slot that is conflicting with the Iphone.
