It just that cars that I've driven before with shed loads of tourque allways go quicker by short shifting. There really is no need to push the 335d to the red line as the output torque would be less than what is available in the next gear up. The torque drops off rapidly after 4500RPM so if it were me I would use that as an absolute limit. Maybe in ds mode the shift points are nearer 5000RPM, I don't know, I haven't finished running in yet.
I mapped the output shaft torque for my 530d and found that it was better to short shift in the upper gears
