On pre-LCI steptronic cars, pulling either paddle will upshift, pushing either will downshift. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't LCI paddles have right/left function symmetric (right pull - upshift, left pull - downshift)?
Regardless, as I alluded to above, it's VERY easy to wire pre-LCI (and LCI I'm sure) to work exactly how you want them to.
