It's entirely possible they they decided to save a few pennies, though it would seem rather obtuse.
I guess the temp gauge seemed to be a good bet to loose when they set out the simplified dial set for the E9x as they can do all sorts of protection with the electronics and I bet most people never look at it anyway. However, a moving redline would have been nice if only to confirm when it had warmed up. Let's face it all we want is a cold / ok / hot / overheat
indication. We don't need to know what the temp is, which could be done through the OBC without worrying about fluctuations.
