They have a chrome strip running through the centre of them, and this is separate to the light unit. However, as the light units are handed, so are the chrome strips. Hence if you put the left chrome strip on the right, it will fit the lamp but not the car - the strip hits the door panel. Did you try some of these ones????
I did notice that walking past my E60 yesterday, the side repeaters looked identical to the E90x ones!

It was'nt the chrome stripped ones I tried they are not to my taste.
