It really depends on the quality of the coilovers you choose and how they interact with the other suspension parts on your car.
I have AST 4100's with Swift Springs on my E92 and they are 100% noise free. My car's handling went from feeling sloppy and not particularly comfortable to sharp and planted with absolutely no sacrifice in ride comfort. In fact, I actually feel the ride's improved.
