When the phone is connected via bluetooth, it'll play the music on my iphone but it doesn't have track information. My ipod didn't play at all, just charged when connected via usb. And as usual, the BMW website is misleading.....

The ipod atleast played with the normal apple cable via usb in my 08 so something must have changed in MY2009.
There's a second usb port in the glove box to download music to the onboard hard drive but have not tried it out yet. Still stuck at work =p |
The Y cable is only to access music from your iPod or iPhone. You should have a dock in your armrest. To get the facebook etc you'll need the dock and the BMW Connected App on your iphone.
Curiously, is yours an auto?
