From reading lots of threads on here, it sounds like the only difference with drop-in filters is the media, of which it may or may not be worse. Performance gains seem to be slim-to-none, sound isn't likely to change with the same closed airbox configuration, and you run the risk of damaging your engine with a non-oem filter. Now, most people say "pshaw, it's not going to damage my engine!" and I 98% agree with that, but if you don't get a performance increase, maybe probably not a noise increase, and it costs money, why even bother?

The short-arm intakes make more noise, but may give negligible-to-negative performance improvement, they're just for sound, and they're expensive.

I can't believe how expensive intake systems are. They're so friggin easy to make a tube and point it in a direction that doesn't hit something. The difficulty comes in knowing/finding an injection molding company I suppose?
