i don't think its as much of german engineering as it is driving behavior. I've seen a video of an E90 owner driving on the autobahn after ED pickup, and he was going 145mph i believe. he commented on how the other drivers, in the left lane, would just move out of his way, no problems. Here in the U.S., you can be gunning it in the left lane and you still come across countless people who won't budge.

Also, I would think those driving 100 mph+ would be more vigilant and cautious that those driving slower trying to do their makup and talk on the cellphone at the same time.
