This is interesting. It seems BMW high performance oil they use at the dealers causes the turbos to run hotter - even though it is the reccomended oil by BMW.

I would be weary to swtich to a 5W-40 when the engine is designed to run 10W-40 (or 30?) even if it makes it run cooler.

My engine seems to run VERY hot as well. Hit 255 degrees today in city driving with some pretty spirited driving (rpms in excess of 5k). The temp seems to just keep climbing, I eventually got worried and shut it down.

I did an early oil change also at the dealership, wonder if that has to do with anything.
