My engine seems to run VERY hot as well. Hit 255 degrees today in city driving with some pretty spirited driving (rpms in excess of 5k). The temp seems to just keep climbing, I eventually got worried and shut it down.

I did an early oil change also at the dealership, wonder if that has to do with anything.

5W-40 means it has the same temperature starting point as the 5W-30 while has a capability to protect up to a higher temperature then the 30. So if anything, you're getting more protection.
