Total rubbish from that parts department, disgraceful behaviour. Either he was trying to bluff you or he didn't know and couldn't be bothered finding out, either way is pathethic.
Buy a strip of the batteries from Ebay, I bought I think 12 Panasonic ones from Ebay for the same as one would have cost me in Boots. Replaced all keyfobs for both cars and they have been used in other kids toys etc too.
