255/35 is stock for rears ON 18's

255/40 on 17 is the same exact height as 255/35-18, both 25" tall

It's the lower offset on your new wheels that require you to roll your fenders as they will be sticking out too much. R-comps also run wider than a street tire but the 40 profile on a 17 is fine.
