Yes, it functions by tricking the ECU into thinking that not enough fuel is being delivered, as a result the ECU sends a signal to the fuel pump to pump more fuel, thus the fuel pump increases pressure to pump more diesel. Increasing fuel delivery is how diesels make extra power. There are a couple of ways to go about doing this; 1) by increasing injection timing (ECU flash) or 2) by increasing fuel pressure (piggybacks).
