I just got the same problem but the difference is that DS wont engage however, when i do the + or - my center cluster shows M1, M2, M3, etc... so im assuming the manual mode still works but the DS doesnt engage. I checked the plastic piece on the shifter and only the D light comes on in D and when shifted into DS no indicator comes on

can anybody give imput on this? Thanks

btw my car is a '08 e90 328xi dont kno if that makes a difference
