Naw, RWD is fine in the snow around here with proper snow tires. I drive my RWD E34 530i everywhere and that thing is a tank...granted the 3-series is lower which could be a bigger deal in really deep snow.
As long as you don't live on a country road or anything, you don't need XI.
These other guys saying you need it just need to learn how to drive a RWD car in the snow is all...but like said above, good luck finding one locally.
