With the BMW (the Merc doesn't have extendable squabs) I was the opposite in that they both had to be extended - my mrs would always push 'hers' in, when she got in the car and the first thing I'd do (well, second, after re-aligning the vents) was extend the squab again!
I've had a conversation about this many time with friends.
Everyone has OCD to some degree. We might not all be afflicted to the point we wash our hands 200 times a day or fuck around with a light switch for 15 minutes before leaving the room, but there are always things every single one of us are particular to the point of obsessive about, which is what OCD is (albeit our obsessions aren't dibilitating).
