The only thing I can think of is to destroy the old bushing to get it out from around the shift lever ball. I am pretty reluctant to do that though as, if I do, I am basically fully committed to this. If I run into even one problem with the new shifter I am looking at a tow truck and big $$$.
I think I may just have to recognize that I will not be doing this mod.
