My LCI 320d will do over 50mpg on motorways etc but spend a few days with above average cold starts followed by stop, start round town etc & the average very quickly drops below 40 mpg. Used solely "for the school run and shopping trips" I doubt it would do much better than yours &, as Hotcoupe mentioned, I'd be looking at a new DPF fairly soon. Buy a smaller petrol, they're much more suited to that style of driving
