From my Warranty Vehicle Inquiry document on my 2010 CPO:
"BMW NA has extended the turbocharger's emissions warranty up to a total of 8 years of 82,000 miles, whichever comes first and starting from an eligible vehicle's original in-service date, for a failure of a turbocharger caused by a defect of the turbocharger's wastegate. Please see Service Information bulletin B01 02 12 for more information." (emphasis and any typos mine)
My interpretation is that a turbo failure for any reason other than the wastegate would not be covered by this.
