The DDE is more than a computer. It's also the drive electronics that send signals to all the actuators, INCLUDING the injectors. Remember, the injectors fire more than once per combustion, which means several pulses per milli-second. If the drive electronics aren't robust enough (my conjecture), they will eventually die from overload.
