The BMW owners manual describes how to access the sunroof manual wind mechanism. I just followed this and had the light assembly out and lights replaced within minutes. Just make sure you have a small flat blade screwdriver and angle it towards the rear of the car as you push up otherwise you will catch the edge of the roof and not push back the metal clip.

This worked the best! I tried the other methods without any success, but this worked great, thanks! One thing I would suggest to other folks is to put scotch tape inside of the silver part of the dome to prevent scratching it. I learned that lesson after giving it a few scratches trying to put the 12 LED bulb from the modmy3 LED kit.
