There's a ton of info on Tirerack's site that's useful in educating yourself about wheel fitments. In addition, you can do test fitments on the site by choosing a vehicle and seeing how the wheels & tires look on the car.

The original fitment for a bone-stock E9x-series is 7x16 wheel w/ a 205-55-16 tire. Going to 20" wheels means going to a Plus 4 fitment. There will be a number of compromises for the look you want to achieve.
