It does. Very simple, take a stock intake box & tubing and take a look at the positioning of the MAF compared to an Afe Intake. It is quite apparent that the sensor sits way lower in the Afe. When the spacer is installed, all problems go away.
It is not magic!
It's not like Afe is some company with a huge racing heritage. Not much engineering or testing goes into their products, they use the same cookie cutter technique for all cars:
- Create a free flowing intake duct
- Add a high flow filter
- Apply Afe sticker
- $$$$$
