This sounds as if you may have a problem somewhere. If your traction is on then it should kick in every time which is a pain as it prevents power but if your sliding with it on then i would be looking for a problem.
Im only up the road mate if you want to see if mine does the same but i have to drive hard with no traction for it to do it.
