You can take any transistor radio and plug the same Radio Shack cable into the radio and then into the AUX INPUT and if it still won't play, then it's either the car or the plug.
Then, I'd try a new plug. That's a hell of a lot easier than a trip to the dealer.

I have the radio shack cable and it works.
Test the cable and make sure it works (use it to plug the shuffle to a home stereo, etc)
Test the shuffle with headphones.
Other than that, test another device to see if it works.
