a word of warning, automotive HDD differs so much from desktop HDD, in many aspect(mostly durability) I don't recommend doing swaps if you plan to use retail drives. how do I know this? I work in HDD business
if you put in a retail drive I doubt it will survive more than a year depending on road condition, temp & humidity. although bigger challenge lies with modifying partition table to increase user data area imo.
