I am getting a very similar error as well:

API - 0006 ACCESS DENIED

I am trying to get INPA to connect via a Windows 8 machine running VM Lite XP virtual machine. It recognizes the USB cable in the virtual machine but throws this code when attempting to connect to INPA.
Can anyone help?
