Damn, that's terrible. Seeing as how she hit an "object" in the road, could this somehow be claimed under your insurance as a comp claim?

I thought the potholes were bad here, but that damage is epic. Are you sure it was even a pothole, and not possibly something laying in the road? (looking at the pics on my phone, hard to tell).

As far as fighting the city over pothole damage, you can certainly try, but here in Dallas at least it is virtually impossible. The exact pothole has to have been reported (in some cases YOU yourself have had to report it), and the city given adequate time to repair it and then be able to be proven negligent in the repair or lack thereof before they will take a claim. That's why I purchased wheel and tire warranty/insurance when I bought my car.
