The shadowline trim is metal painted with a high gloss black paint, you can restore it in the same way you would restore any painted car surface with a mildly abrasive polish, it would be difficult but not impossible to use a machine so hand application would be best, after you've tried that if its not restored to your liking try a more abrasive polish, there are sealants out there that have the ability to some extent to fill swirls/scratches, finish with wax...good luck!
