Here's a closeup of the two connectors that are on the outside of the slip ring. These plug in to wires that run up from the steering column. The connectors on the inner part of the slip ring (see pics above) connect to wires coming from the steering wheel, like for the horn and the air bag.

You can remove the connectors from their plastic moldings by just sliding them out.
