The female plug are made for 8g rather than 4g. But you can always "make" it fit.
See attached picture to compare the plug vs 4g wire.

Also keep in mind, the wire runs are fairly short so most installs can get away with 8g.


As for unplugging the gnd before plugging the pos side in , it depends if there is a load on the otherside. But might as well make it a habit and unplug it. From what I observed, you only lose trip meter and mpg calculations with negative terminal disconnected..
There is another pn ending in 94 instead of 92 that accomodates larger gauge wire
