On my E46, I first used gloss black spray paint on my chrome grill. After a while i chipped off and the chrome was showing again. After sanding it down, I tried out plasti dip before considering to just buy black grills and it lasted a long time. I would consider trying this for your trim too, as this is completely reversible (if done correctly). If you change your mind, you just peel it off. No residue like with removing vinyl like stated above.
